May 23, 2013: Production on Homeland season 3 has begun
For those of you wondering, Homeland is now in production. The cast (well, some of it) was reunited on the set in Charlotte on Tuesday, May 21, 2013, for the first day of production. Damian was not there, as he was in Cannes that day. When will he go to Charlotte? We will have to wait and see. But no one should assume necessarily that less time in Charlotte means less on-screen time this season. After all, Brody is in hiding, so it's possible that many of his scenes might be filmed separately from the regular cast. They might even be filmed in distant locations ... perhaps even the UK? This is all speculation, of course, and time will tell!

Morena Baccarin will be a guest on this Saturday night's episode of The Nerdist (May 18, 2013), which is on BBC America television in the US at 10 pm (ET). May 15, 2013: New film project
According to this Screen Daily article, Damian will appear in the film The Silent Storm. In the romantic drama, an enigmatic outsider (Andrea Riseborough living on a remote Scottish island is caught between her commanding husband (Damian) and a 17 year-old delinquent. Principal photography is due to get underway this summer in Scotland. What's puzzling about this project is the timing of production: It's due to begin filming this summer in Scotland. What that may or may not mean for
Homeland (and, for that matter, To Appomattox, which also reportedly will begin filming soon) remains to be seen.

May 9, 2013: Homeland filming update
Earlier this week, it was posted here (in an erroneous news entry now deleted) that filming of season 3 of Homeland had begun in Charlotte this week. That is incorrect -- a misunderstanding stemming from Charlotte news site WCNC's posting on Wednesday of a gallery of thirty Homeland on-location production photos captioned as having been from "Tuesday." As it turns out, those photos are actually from a Tuesday in late August 2012, when scenes were filmed at and around Mike's home for season 2, episode 8. According to an announcement from the main casting firm for background actors for Homeland, filming actually begins in about two weeks.

April 26, 2013: To Appomattox update
Lots of developments regarding To Appomattox. First off, the title has reverted back to the original To Appomattox (thank goodness!) from the "Grant vs. Lee" title that Sony Pictures had mandated. Speaking of Sony, To Appomattox producer Michael Frost Beckner announced today that the project has "officially severed ties with Sony." Although that sounds like bad news, it's actually very good, as Mr. Beckner explains: "Sony held this project hostage for two years. ... My cast and music attachments and crew are all thrilled. We're going to do this now. No more waiting around." At this point, a few US television networks (broadcast and cable) are expressing interest in presenting the miniseries. As for financing it, with Sony out, the producers are looking at an innovative option that has had some very significant success in the industry recently: It's called Kickstarter. Put simply, it is a program through which the people who want to see a project made (in this case, the fans and viewing public) collectively contribute toward it. When you're talking about several thousand to several million people, a few dollars per person adds up fast: In a recent Kickstarter campaign, Rob Thomas, Kristen Bell and the team behind the Veronica Mars movie raised nearly $6 million in contributions from fans that averaged about $30-$50 each. (There isn't any minimum contribution, either, by the way.) The goal certainly is not to fund the entire project this way, just enough of a financial commitment to convince major Hollywood backers that it's a good investment for them to add their big Hollywood bucks to. In return for pledging financial support through a Kickstarter campaign, members of the public receive incentives/rewards, typically tiered to the size of the contribution. Rewards may range from items such as posters, T-shirts and DVDs to on-set tours and roles as extras, among other things. (Specific rewards are set by the producers and others on the team who set up the Kickstarter campaign for a specific project.) Regarding Kickstarter plans for To Appomattox, Mr. Beckner said today that he has put together a pretty [Kickstarter] savvy team, and details regarding the Kickstarter will be "coming soon."
