February 3, 2012: Homeland's UK premiere revised to Sunday, February 19
Last month, unofficial reports surfaced that Channel 4 in the UK would premiere Homeland on Saturday, February 18, 2012. Today on the BBC Radio 4 programme Front Row (see next news item below), it was announced that the premiere of Homeland will take place on Sunday, February 19, 2012. No time has been announced yet, and this date has not been confirmed yet by Channel 4. However, Channel 4 has confirmed that the premiere definitely will be during "week 8" of its annual schedule, which is the week of February 18-24. Be sure to check back here for updates as information becomes available.

February 2, 2011: Damian's role in Romeo And Juliet revealed
In his latest film project, Romeo And Juliet, now filming in Italy, Damian will portray Lord Capulet, father of the teenage Juliet. And as for the production itself, it will remain very true to the original medieval romantic story as conceived by William Shakespeare, with very little modification to, as screenwriter Julian Fellowes comments, "make it slightly more accessible to today’s generation." (Interesting observation: This will be the second time that Damian has portrayed the father of a girl involved in a romance "forbidden" because of family conflicts, the first being his portrayal of Soames Forsyte, father of Fleur Forsyte, who was involved in a "forbidden" romance with Jon Forsyte in The Forsyte Saga: Series II.)

February 2, 2011: Homeland promotional trailers receive award nominations
Nominations for the New York Festivals (NYF) International Television & Film Awards have been announced, and two of Homeland's most memorable promotional trailers are in contention in various categories. Homeland's "Two Sides" tease (the trailer featuring Brody (Damian) and Carrie (Claire Danes) in split-screen reciting the Oath of Office/Oath of Enlistment while their images slowly merge together) is nominated in the Promo Spot categories of Best Copywriting and Best Editing. Congratulations! The New York Festivals (NYF) International Television & Film Awards will be presented in Las Vegas on April 17, 2012.

January 12, 2012: Homeland DVD available for pre-order, release date not yet known
The DVD set of season one of Homeland is available for pre-order at many online and local DVD retailers. A release date has not yet been announced. It's likely that the availability for pre-order has something to do with the current Golden Globe momentum -- if any of the three nominations turn into wins, Showtime may make the DVD available more quickly to take advantage of the heightened interest. (Ordinarily, the DVD set probably would not have been released until around mid-August, going by when the Dexter DVD sets usually have been released.) Curiously, however, the DVD set is not yet available for pre-order from Showtime's own store.

January 4, 2012: A second Sweeney film is in the works
Although The Sweeney won't be in cinemas until September 2012, second film is already being planned. Screen Daily reports that The Sweeney's director Nick Love and production company Vertigo Films are already on board, and that Nick Love is "in talks with Winstone and Drew to make a sequel which would be more international in flavour and could be a prequel story charting how Regan and Carter met". It is not yet known whether Damian's role would be reprised in the second film. According to IndieWire's speculation: "At present, there's no word if any of the supporting cast, which includes 'Captain America' breakout star Hayley Atwell and 'Homeland' star Damian Lewis, will also return, but we imagine not." But it's really way too soon to be certain one way or the other. Fingers crossed!

December 8, 2011: Bl**dy Skype!
For those (like me) who have been wondering why Damian ultimately wasn't part of the Wednesday's Black Sky Radio special "round-table" interview show with Band Of Brothers cast members -- especially after Rick Warden mentioned on air that he'd just spoken with Damian, and Damian said he was on his way to join in -- it turns out that Damian's absence was entirely Skype's fault. The programme's producer Ross Owen has posted the following on Facebook: "Received an email from Damian Lewis. He WAS on to Skype trying to join the round table show, but thanks to Skype playing up, he couldn't see us in his [online] contact list. Actually, we were in his list of contacts but we were showing as offline. The Band Of Brothers project is over now, and we already did a solo interview with Damian, so we missed the boat during the round table, I'm afraid. Apologies to all."

The WGA Awards will be presented in simultaneous, bicoastal ceremonies in New York and Los Angeles on February 19, 2012. Congratulations to the Homeland writers and to all involved in the series for these three nominations! (Note: Although the Producers Guild of America (PGA) Award nominations were also announced today, Homeland was not among the nominees -- but this is only because the series premiered after the eligibility period (June 1, 2010 through May 31, 2011) had already ended. Ah, well, something else to look forward to in next year's award season!)

December 3, 2011: Black Sky Radio Band Of Brothers round-table interview update and time change
The Black Sky Radio special "round-table" interview show, to wrap up the phenominal 18-month interview series produced by Ross Owen, is now scheduled to take place on Wednesday, December 7, 2011, a bit earlier than previously announced -- it is now scheduled to start at 3 pm (ET) in the US, which is 8 pm UK time. Damian and several other Band Of Brothers cast members have agreed to participate (subject to their availability). The event is now expected to last for approximately 5 or 6 hours, so plan accordingly! Apparently, the plan is for the interviews to take place in groups, with each group's interview session to last approximately an hour. Damian is in group 1, along with Shane Taylor, Rick Warden, Ben Caplan, Peter O'Meara. The remaining groups are as follows: group 2 - Peter McCabe, Nolan Hemmings, Robin Laing, Mark Lawrence; group 3 - Neal McDonough, Rick Gomez, James Madio, Ross McCall; group 4 - George Calil, Nick Aaron, Tim Matthews, Peter Youngblood Hills, Bart Ruspoli; group 5 - Eion Bailey, Matt Settle, Philip Barantini, Doug Allen; group 6 - Richard Speight Jr,, Scott Grimes, Douglas Spain, Rene Moreno. Anyone may listen to the interview live at the time of broadcast from anywhere worldwide here. (Use The World Clock Time Zone Converter to find out when to listen from wherever you are.) If for any reason you are unable to listen to the interview at the time of broadcast, it will be rebroadcast in its entirety 12 hours later (3 am (ET) in the US and 8 am UK time). Also, as with all other interviews in this wonderful series, you will be able to listen to highlights from the interview here. The event also aims to raise money for the Richard Winters Leadership Project -- the statue in Winters's likeness to be placed in Sainte Marie-du-Mont and the Damian-narrated documentary Hang Tough. Here's how the fundraising aspect of the event works: If you have a Band Of Brothers question that you would like Damian or one of the other actors to answer live on the air during the interview, submit your question to bobinterviews@gmail.com along with a pledge of $100 or more. All funds raised go to the Richard Winters Leadership Project. Note: The number of questions to be asked on air will be limited.

November 18, 2011: Scheduling news for Homeland season two in US and season one in UK
According to a Deadline.com interview with Showtime entertainment president David Nevins, it is almost certain that Dexter and Homeland will be paired together, as they have been this year, on the fall 2012 schedule and beyond, with the new season premieres taking place (as Dexter's premieres traditionally have) in late September or early October. Says Nevins, "The pairing of Dexter and Homeland has made for a very powerful Sunday, and our plan is to likely keep them together. Clearly those shows cement our schedule on Sunday for the next several years." Meanwhile, here is an update of sorts for those of you in the UK wondering when Homeland will premiere on Channel 4: According to a Twitter post from David Harewood (the British actor who portrays CIA Deputy Director David Estes in the series) yesterday responding to another Twitter user's inquiry, apparently Channel 4 intends to premiere Homeland in June 2012. If confirmation or further details surface, the information will be posted here.

November 16, 2011: Homeland's creators discuss the lifespan of the Brody story
In this Daily Beast interview article, Alex Gansa and Howard Gordon, the creators of Homeland address the question of how long the Brody story and character might fit in the scheme of the series. Alex Gansa says, "Even after we went to pilot, there was a sense of 'How long can you keep the Brody story going?' and is the question of 'Is he or is he not a terrorist?' and 'Has he or has he not been turned?' -- is that enough to sustain even a season? As we got into the story room and started discussing it, it has expanded and bloomed in a way that clearly Brody is going to exist at least through the first two seasons. Beyond that, you have a franchise with Saul and Carrie and the CIA and their battle against terrorists. I think the series has legs. How long the Brody character exists in that narrative, I don’t know. But certainly for two seasons." Howard Gordon concurs, saying, "This is a show about the CIA. In the end, there’s a CIA agent or several CIA agents, and that’s a very durable engine." The good news in those comments is that clearly Damian will be back for Homeland's second season. For the moment, things appear questionable after that -- maybe Brody will be part of things after season two, or maybe not. So maybe it's time for us to start spreading the word that we want to keep Brody/Damian around longer (at least for as long as Damian wants to portray Brody). Consider posting messages to that effect on the Homeland Facebook site, the Homeland Twitter site, the Homeland message board on the Showtime site, and in the comment sections of various articles about the series. If word gets around before the second season is under way, we have a better chance of influencing the show's creators and writers to craft the story's direction in a way that would keep the Brody character around longer.

November 16, 2011: The Lewis-McCrory family may appear in Disney special next week

There's a good chance (though no guarantee) that the family might be visible in the special. (Unfortunately, the Disney Channel in the US has not announced any plans to present this special.)

The TV 3 television network in New Zealand has announced that it will be presenting Homeland beginning in 2012. The network has not yet announced a premiere date -- the same goes for the UK's Channel 4 and Australia's TEN, the other two television networks that earlier had announced plans to present Homeland beginning in 2012. Fortunately for those of you in Canada, the Super Channel network in Canada didn't follow the "2012" trend -- it premiered the series last week (November 1, 2011). Here's hoping that these other three networks will announce their 2012 premiere dates for Homeland soon. And here's also hoping that more networks around the globe will pick up Homeland for presentation in other countries.

Damian's next film role will be in the action-filled crima drama The Sweeney, a present-day update of the popular 1970s British television series of the same title. The specific character Damian portrays in The Sweeney has not been announced, but it is a supporting role (Ray Winstone and Ben Drew have the lead roles of the two detectives) so his filming schedule should accommodate his final weeks on this season of Homeland.

October 26, 2011: Homeland renewed for season 2, and season 1 finale to be supersized
It's official! The Showtime television network in the US has renewed Homeland for season 2! The second season will have 12 episodes (just like season 1), and will begin production in spring 2012. Based on that, season 2 most likely will be presented starting in late September or early October 2012 (but the presentation timing is not yet confirmed). Meanwhile, get ready for a big season 1 finale for Homeland -- in more ways than one. Details of the episode's story are still under wraps, but the episode's run time will be more feature-film-like at approximately 90 minutes (instead of the usual episodic run time of about an hour). This movie-length episode will make its debut on the Showtime television network in the US on Sunday, December 18, 2011, at the usual time of 10 pm (ET). The replay later that night will start at 12:30 am (ET). The episode will have these same adjusted air times on Monday, December 19, 2011, and a few other air times during the week are being adjusted as well. Refer to the Upcoming Events page for details.

October 19, 2011: Damian to take part in another Black Sky Radio interview soon
Sometime soon (no date has been announced yet), Black Sky Radio will present a special "round-table" interview show featuring cast members from Band Of Brothers to wrap up the phenominal interview series, produced by Ross Owen, that began more than a year ago. Several cast members previously interviewed in this series have agreed to participate in the special round-table interview show -- and Damian is among those planning to take part. Others planning to participate include Nick Aaron, Philip Barantini, George Calil, Ben Caplan, Michael Cudlitz, Captain Dale Dye, Rick Gomez, Scott Grimes, Nolan Hemmings, Robin Laing, Mark Lawrence, Jimmy Madio, Tim Matthews, Ross McCall, Peter O' Meara, Bart Ruspoli, Douglas Spain, Rick Warden, Peter Youngblood Hills, and more yet to be announced. (Everyone's participation is, of course, subject to availability.) The event also aims to raise money for the Richard Winters Leadership Project -- the statue in Winters's likeness to be placed in Sainte Marie-du-Mont and the Damian-narrated documentary Hang Tough. Here's how the fundraising aspect of the event works: If you have a Band Of Brothers question that you would like Damian or one of the other actors to answer live on the air during the interview, submit your question to bobinterviews@gmail.com along with a pledge of $100 or more. October 12, 2011: Canada's Super Channel launches Homeland site, Australia's TEN plans in question
The Super Channel television network in Canada has launched its Homeland site in anticipation of the network's November 1, 2011, premiere date for the series. Meanwhile, the TEN television network in Australia continues to leave its proposed Homeland site blank, and there is no mention of the series anywhere else on the TEN site. So although the network had previously indicated it would begin presenting Homeland in October 2011 (see news item dated August 24, 2011), that possibility is looking rather unlikely now. So it seems that those of you in Australia are in a holding pattern for Homeland much like those of you in the UK awaiting the yet-to-be-scheduled premiere on Channel 4 (which won't be until at least first-quarter 2012, if not later). No updated news has surfaced from either network regarding their plans for the series. Hopefully, some information will surface soon from both. Stay tuned. ...

The cinematic release date for Will in the UK has been postponed to November 4, 2011 -- a delay of two weeks from the previously announced date of October 21, 2011. Also, instead of a wide UK release, the film now will be released only in select cities. (Specific cities have not yet been announced.) There has been no word yet as to whether the red-carpet premiere in Liverpool will still take place on October 16, 2011, or if it will change to a date closer to the revised release date. September 16, 2011: Update on television debuts of Homeland in the UK and Australia
Ever since the Channel 4 television network in the UK announced in July 2011 that they would be presenting Homeland sometime in the future, they have never indicated when they would present it. For now, it looks like the premiere date on Channel 4 won't be until at least first-quarter 2012, if not later. The network has just issued a press release and press pack of their autumn 2011 programming, and Homeland is not listed. (It also is not listed in the autumn 2011 press pack for their E4 channel, although some of the other programs acquired through the same US-to-UK distribution deal are premiereing this autumn on E4.) Meanwhile, the Ten television network in Australia, which in August 2011 had indicated it would begin presenting Homeland in October 2011, appears to be taking steps toward keeping that commitment: Although the Homeland page at the Ten site isn't live yet, there is a link to it on their TV shows menu page (you'll find it on page two). Alas, the link isn't available yet on the site's main page at the bottom or in the drop-down menu at the top. But hopefully, the links should be added and the page launched soon -- and a premiere date should be announced soon, too!

Today's updates: Photos from episode 1 of Homeland (and several photos previously (mis)filed with episode 1 of Homeland are now filed with episode 2 of Homeland), and articles about Homeland, articles about Homeland, and a quote has been added to the What Others Say page.

September 15, 2011: Premiere episode of Homeland available via on-demand services
In addition to being available online, the complete premiere episode of Homeland is now also available for viewing through various cable and satellite television on-demand services in the US. There is also an "About Homeland" promo available. Both the episode and promo are available free through October 14, 2011, to all cable and satellite subscribers with on-demand access. To locate the videos on Comcast / XFinity OnDemand, go to "Premium Channels" > "Premium Sampler" > "Showtime Premieres". For other cable or satellite providers, please contact your provider for assistance locating the episode and promo. Note: For this preview, the episode is slightly edited for content (silent bits to omit for-adults-only language, and blurs/blots to conceal nudity). When shown next month on Showtime and on Showtime OnDemand (both available to paying Showtime subscribers only), it will be unedited.

September 15, 2011: Cast appearances to promote Homeland premiere begin
In the first of the announced scheduled US television appearances of Homeland cast members to promote the upcoming premiere, Claire Danes is scheduled to appear on Live With Regis And Kelly on Thursday, September 29, 2011. (Check your local listings for time and channel.) There will likely be more cast appearances -- hopefully some with Damian -- during the next few weeks, especially during the last week of September. Some shows, like Live With Regis And Kelly, are faster than other shows at announcing their upcoming guests. As other Homeland-cast appearance announcements surface, details will be posted here as well as on the Upcoming Events page.

You must be in the US to view it, but other than that, there are no restrictions or requirements. (That's good news for those who may have struggled trying to gain access to the episode through the "Watch Carefully" site.) To watch the episode, simply go to this page at the Showtime site or this page at Showtime's YouTube channel. Note: The video featured at the Showtime site and Showtime's YouTube channel is slightly edited for content (silent bits to omit for-adults-only language, and blurs/blots to conceal nudity), whereas the video featured at the "Watch Carefully" site is unedited.

September 12, 2011: Premiere episode of Homeland available for online viewing ... but only to those with clearance
As of 12:00 am (ET) today (overnight last night), online access to the complete premiere episode of Homeland is available to select individuals who successfully complete all four perception challenges at the "Watch Carefully" site: Watch Carefully, Read Carefully, Look Carefully and Listen Carefully. Successful completion of all four games is required in order to gain access to an exclusive access code and watch the episode online. The access code may only be used once per machine (and might be limited to the US ... but those of you in other countries may want to give it a try, just in case), and online access to the video is presumably only available for a limited time. A deadline for access has not been provided by Showtime, but only the first 5,000 users to complete all four perception challenges will be eligible to access the video. So, if you wish to watch it online, act quickly. If you need assistance with the games or other interactive features on the "Watch Carefully" site, visit the Homeland Game Guide page.
