HOMELAND GAME GUIDE

Step-by-step instructions for the features and games at the Homeland watchcareful.ly site

Instructions for accessing ANY of the games and features at watchcareful.ly:

1. Log in at either Facebook or Twitter, if you aren't currently logged in. (You must log in at one or the other to use any of the features and games at the watchcareful.ly site.)
2. Go to watchcareful.ly.
3. Click on the "Connect" link in the top-right corner where the site says "Connect to begin mission and unlock premium content."
4. Click on the Facebook or Twitter icon -- whichever one you are currently logged in on.

Instructions for using the message "Encrypt/Decrypt" feature at watchcareful.ly:

1. If you haven't already done so, follow the instructions above for accessing any of the games and features at watchcareful.ly.
2. Click on the "Decryption" tab located along the right edge of your screen.
3. Use the fields on the left, and the "encrypt"/"decrypt" tabs, to write your own encrypted messages to post online, or to decrypt existing encrypted messages -- such as those that you will find at the Homeland Twitter page.
4. To exit the decryption/encryption feature at any time, click the "Close" link in the upper-right corner of your screen.

Instructions for playing the "Watch Carefully" game at watchcareful.ly:

1. If you haven't already done so, follow the instructions above for accessing any of the games and features at watchcareful.ly.
2. Scroll to the bottom of the screen, and click on "Play" under "Watch Carefully" in the lower-left corner.
3. Study and memorize the six images ("targets") on the screen below where the site says: "The following targets have been marked as suspicious. Identify and click each target as quickly as possible to unlock hidden content."
4. Click on "Start Game" and wait for the video to begin playing. (It may take some time, depending on your Internet connection speed.)
5. Once the video begins playing, watch carefully (as the name of the game implies!) for each the six "target" images. (Those images are partial screenshots from the video.) When you spot an image in the video, quickly click once on the corresponding image in the row below the video.
6. If at anytime during the video you wish to start the video and game over, simply click on the "Exit Game" link in the upper-right corner, then click on "Start Game" to restart the video and game from the beginning.
7. When the video ends, your score and results will appear on the screen. You receive 100 points for each image you clicked on correctly and quickly enough while the video played. Therefore, if you clicked on all six in a timely manner, your score should be at least 600 (excluding bonus points, if any). A score of at least 600 is needed for clearance -- and access to previously locked, premium content.
8. If your score is less than 600 and you wish to play again, click on the "Play" button below your score. The game should begin again immediately.
9. Once you achieve a score of at least 600 and your clearance status on the scorecard reads "Cleared", go to the "Inventory" section at the top of the screen (it's just to the right of the Homeland logo in the top-left corner). Click on the left-most box in the four-box "Inventory" section. You will gain access to information that you previously could not access without clearance. While viewing this premium content, use the /\ and \/ icons on the right to scroll up or down, and click on the folder icons to instantly reveal additional premium content.

Instructions for playing the "Read Carefully" game at watchcareful.ly:

1. If you haven't already done so, follow the instructions above for accessing any of the games and features at watchcareful.ly.
2. Scroll to the bottom of the screen, and click on "Play" under "Read Carefully" in the lower-left corner, second from the left.
3. Click on "Start Game".
4. You will see a passage of mostly blacked-out text. Click on the first scrambled word, in red, and once you determine on your own what the unscrambled word is, type it in the box that appears to the right of the scrambled word. If you descramble the word correctly, some of the previously blacked-out text will be revealed, and you can proceed to the next scrambled word. Repeat the process until you have successfully descrambled all of the words.
5. This game has four levels (four passages with scrambled words for you to descramble). After you complete the first level, your score and results for that level will appear on the screen. You receive 50 points for each successfully descrambled word. For level 1, you need a score of at least 400 (excluding bonus points, if any) for clearance -- and access to level 2. For levels 2, 3 and 4, you need scores of at least 450, 300 and 350, respectively, for clearance at each level.
6. Once you gain clearance at level 1, click the "Play" button below the empty scoreboard for level 2. Once you gain clearance at level 2, click the "Play" button below the empty scoreboard for level 3. Once you gain clearance at level 3, click the "Play" button below the empty scoreboard for level 4. If your score at any level (1, 2, 3 or 4) is insufficient for clearance, you may replay the level by clicking on the "Play" button below your score for that level.
7. Once you achieve clearance for all four levels and the status on the scorecard under all four levels reads "Cleared", go to the "Inventory" section at the top of the screen (it's just to the right of the Homeland logo in the top-left corner). Click on the second-to-left box in the four-box "Inventory" section. You will gain access to information that you previously could not access without clearance. While viewing this premium content, use the /\ and \/ icons on the right to scroll up or down, and click on the folder icons to instantly reveal additional premium content.

Instructions for playing the "Look Carefully" game at watchcareful.ly:

1. If you haven't already done so, follow the instructions above for accessing any of the games and features at watchcareful.ly.
2. Scroll to the bottom of the screen, and click on "Play" under "Look Carefully" in the lower-right corner, second from the right.
3. Click on "Start Game".
4. You will see pairs of nearly identical images -- there are subtle differences between the two versions. Examine and compare the two versions carefully. As you spot each difference in the version on the right as compared to the version on the left, click on the location of the difference in the version on the right. If you are correct, a yellow circle with the words "target acquired" will appear. If you are incorrect, a red circle will appear. Once you correctly click on all five locations with differences in an image pair, the screen will proceed to a new pair of images with differences for you to identify.
5. This game has four levels. The first, second and levels each have three image pairs, and the fourth level has four image pairs. After you complete the first level, your score and results for that level will appear on the screen. You receive 50 points for each correctly identified photo difference (yellow "target acquired" circle), and points are deducted whenever you are incorrect (red circle). For level 1, you need a score of at least 750 (excluding bonus points, if any) for clearance -- and access to level 2. For levels 2 and 3, you need scores of at least 750 each, for clearance at each level. For level 4, you need a score of at least 1000 for clearance.
6. Once you gain clearance at level 1, click the "Play" button below the empty scoreboard for level 2. Once you gain clearance at level 2, click the "Play" button below the empty scoreboard for level 3. Once you gain clearance at level 3, click the "Play" button below the empty scoreboard for level 4. If your score at any level (1, 2, 3 or 4) is insufficient for clearance, you may replay the level by clicking on the "Play" button below your score for that level.
7. Once you achieve clearance for all four levels and the status on the scorecard under all four levels reads "Cleared", click on the "Access Content" button under your score. Alternate method for content access: Go to the "Inventory" section at the top of the screen (it's just to the right of the Homeland logo in the top-left corner), and click on the third-from-left box in the four-box "Inventory" section. With either method, you will gain access to information that you previously could not access without clearance. While viewing this premium content, use the /\ and \/ icons on the right to scroll up or down, and click on the folder icons to instantly reveal additional premium content.

Instructions for playing the "Listen Carefully" game at watchcareful.ly:

1. If you haven't already done so, follow the instructions above for accessing any of the games and features at watchcareful.ly.
2. Scroll to the bottom of the screen, and click on "Play" under "Listen Carefully" in the lower-right corner.
3. Click on "Start Game".
4. You will hear an audio clip of a conversation (a scene from the series). If you need to pause or replay the audio, move your mouse or cursor over the top half of the screen where the audio clip is displayed to see and access the player's controls. After listening to the audio clip, click the "Report Your Observations" button. A series of three questions about the clip will appear one at a time, each with three possible answers from which you may choose. Select an answer to the first question (click on the text or the circle to the left of your choice) and proceed to the second question, and then to the third question.
5. This game has four levels. Each level features an audio clip and three multiple-choice questions. After you complete the first level, your score and results for that level will appear on the screen. You receive 50 points for each correctly answered question, and 10 points are deducted for each incorrect answer. For each level, you need a score of at least 150 (excluding bonus points, if any) for clearance.
6. Once you gain clearance at level 1, click the "Play" button below the empty scoreboard for level 2. Once you gain clearance at level 2, click the "Play" button below the empty scoreboard for level 3. Once you gain clearance at level 3, click the "Play" button below the empty scoreboard for level 4. If your score at any level (1, 2, 3 or 4) is insufficient for clearance, you may replay the level by clicking on the "Play" button below your score for that level.
7. Because this is the fourth and final game, the path to the reward is a bit different. First, you must have successfully completed all four games at the site: Watch Carefully, Read Carefully, Look Carefully and Listen Carefully. Then, if you are deemed to be among the most perceptive participants in the four-game tournament, you may be selected to receive the special reward: The opportunity to view the complete premiere episode of Homeland online for a limited time beginning September 12, 2011! Upon successful completion of the site's four games, you will need to retrieve an access code to gain access to the video. There are two ways to retrieve your access code:
   • Method 1: Once you achieve clearance for all four levels of the Listen Carefully game (and presuming you have already successfully completed the other three games at the site) and the status on the scorecard under all four levels of the Listen Carefully game reads "Cleared", click on the "Access Content" button under your score for level 4 to retrieve your access code.
   • Method 2: Go to the "Inventory" section at the top of the screen (it's just to the right of the Homeland logo in the top-left corner), and click on the right-hand box in the four-box "Inventory" section to retrieve your access code.
8. With either method, once you have the access code, click the "Continue" button to enter your code and your birth date (required because the video is rated TV MA). The video should begin playing soon thereafter. Note: The access code is designed to work only once per machine.

Note: The Listen Carefully section of the site is scheduled to be launched on September 5, 2011.
